The Dodge Dart, a vehicle known for its sporty design and efficiency, requires specific headlight bulb sizes to ensure optimal illumination and safety.
The right headlight bulb size is crucial for maintaining the Dart’s visibility and aesthetic appeal. Headlights are a vital safety feature, providing essential visibility for night driving and during poor weather conditions.

While cars are becoming more efficient, the need for high intensity discharge or xenon headlight systems has increased to meet market demand for better vehicle visibility during nighttime travel.
Light Emitting Diode (LED) headlights, which are gaining popularity today, use more energy than halogen lights but less than HID lights.
Halogen bulbs burn at around 2200k while xenon bulbs burn at around 5400k in color temperature; fall in the “warm white” section of the color spectrum. LED lights are available in color temperatures ranging from 2700k to 6500k, with 3000k being the most common.
The HID light system contains a metal halide arc tube that houses two electrodes between which an electric arc is formed when voltage is applied to the bulb.
This arc emits ultraviolet radiation that causes a phosphor coating on the inside of the bulb to fluoresce and emit visible light.
The interesting thing about HID headlights is that they emit very little heat compared to other types of automobile lighting systems because much less energy is used by HID lights to generate their light as opposed to halogen or LED lamps.
HID headlight bulbs use 35 watts per unit, while LED units use 9 to 11 watts per unit, and halogen lamps burn at 55 watts per unit. This means that HID lights are more energy efficient than LED lights but not as energy efficient as halogen bulbs.
Although your car may be more fuel efficient this year compared to last, driving at night with faulty or burnt out headlight bulbs can decrease the safety of your automobile on the road.
Lighting problems may cause you to spend more money because you need several replacement headlight bulbs during a single oil change.
Fortunately, changing your Dodge Dart’s headlight bulb is easy enough for anyone with basic automotive maintenance skills to complete in their driveway or garage.
How to Replace Headlamp Blubs on the Dodge Dart
The Dodge Dart first came out in 1959 and was marketed by Dodge until 1976. It was reintroduced in 2012 as a compact car that was derived from a Fiat-derived automobile. In some non-US markets, the Dodge Dart is sold as the Fiat Viaggio. Production for the Dodge Dart was discontinued on September 2, 2016, being replaced by the Dodge Neon.
Most vehicles, if not all, come with an owner’s manual when sold new, so reading the owner’s manual is obviously the best way to find out how to replace the Dodge Dart’s headlamp bulbs.
The owner’s manual usually contains all the information you need to do minor maintenance on your vehicle. However, some people lose the owner’s manual for one reason or another. In this case, other sources of information are needed, such as this guide.
This do-it-yourself tutorial on replacing a burnt-out low beam/high beam headlamp bulb covers Dodge Dart model years 2013 to 2016.
This guide may also be useful for those who own other Dodge vehicles such as the Avenger, Charger, Challenger, Grand Caravan, and Durango. It may also be applicable to Chrysler and RAM vehicles like the Town & Country, 200, 300, and C/V Tradesman minivan.
You will need a replacement dual-filament halogen headlamp bulb (low beam/high beam) with part number #9012.
Aside from possibly a flat screwdriver, no tools are needed for the installation, and the instructions in this guide are applicable for both driver and passenger sides of the Dodge Dart.
To change the headlamp bulbs, follow these steps:
Step 1
Sit in the driver’s seat and turn the ignition to the “Accessory/On” position. DO NOT start the engine.
Step 2
To replace the bulb in the left headlamp housing, turn the steering wheel all the way to the right. To replace the right headlamp bulb, turn the steering way all the way to the left. Doing this will give you more room to work in, giving you easier access to the bulbs.
Step 3
Look for the rectangular black plastic access panel on the wheel well liner. This should be located just in front of the wheel/tire, if the steering wheel is in the “dead ahead” position. Press the tab in to release the access panel. Make sure you put it in a safe place.
Step 4
Look for a round plastic dust cap or cover. This provides access to the headlamp bulb. Turn this anti-clockwise so you can pull it off, giving access you access to the bulb. Set this aside.
Step 5
Turn the bottom or base of the old low beam/high beam bulb anti-clockwise until you feel no more resistance. Pull the old bulb out of the housing. This should come off quite easily.
Step 6
Using your fingers, carefully pry off the grey plastic retaining clip. You may use a flat screwdriver for this step if you are not able to have enough leverage to pry it off.
Step 7
Carefully slide the electrical connector off the contact points at the bottom of the old headlamp bulb. Make sure you do not pull it out by the wires! The wires might rip loose and you will end up also having to replace those.
Step 8
Take the new halogen bulb and insert its base into the electrical connector. Make sure to use the correct bulb for this! Make sure as well that the retaining clip clicks into place securely.
IMPORTANT! Always make sure not to touch the glass part of the new halogen bulb! Do not let it come into contact with anything, especially oil. This may leave dirt or oily smudges on the bulb, affecting the bulb’s brightness and intensity. If this happens, wipe the bulb’s surface clean with an alcohol-moistened paper towel.
Step 9
Insert the new headlight bulb into the housing, then turn the headlight bulb clockwise until it locks securely in place.
Step10
Insert the round dust cap back into the access opening. Lock it by turning it firmly clockwise.
Step 11
Close the access panel cover then go back to the driver’s seat.
Step 12
Test the new headlamp bulb by turning on the headlight switch and changing the beams from low to high and vice versa.
The 2016 Dodge Dart had the option of HID headlights, but if your car is an older model and did not come with these, you can replace your headlamp bulbs with aftermarket xenon high intensity discharge bulbs.
Basically, all you need is an HID conversion kit, available at most automobile aftermarket shops.
Different aftermarket products may have different instructions for installation, so the level of difficulty of putting xenon HID lamps on your Dodge Dart may vary depending on the kit you buy.
If you’re ordering online, you have to make sure that you’re ordering for the correct model year. Giving your vehicle identification number to the seller would probably make it easier for them to match the part to your vehicle.
Of course, you have to make sure that you follow your particular kit’s instructions for your headlamps to work properly. Incorrectly installed wiring will most probably result in an electrical fire, damaging your vehicle and costing you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars for repairs.
