The Italian-American car manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles was founded by Walter Chrysler in 1925. The holding company was originally known as Chrysler Corporation until 1998 when the name was changed to DaimlerChrysler. It later changed to Chrysler, LLC in 2007 and Chrysler Group, LLC in 2009.

Walter Chrysler used General Motor’s hierarchy and diversification strategy to expand the vehicle’s brand. He acquired Dodge Brothers and Fargo Trucks in 1928. He also created DeSoto and Plymouth brands. During the 1954 decline in profitability, market share and productivity, he further borrowed $250 million to expand and improve the car’s design.

Currently, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles sells vehicles globally under the Chrysler, Jeep, RAM and Dodge vehicle brands. The additional automotive divisions, SRT and Mopar deal with automotive performance and parts and accessories respectively.
