Volvo

The Volvo automobile brand was a subsidiary of the Swedish multinational manufacturing company, Volvo Group. The latter has its headquarters in Gothenburg. Its primary activity is the production, sale, and distribution of construction equipment, buses, and trucks. It also offers financial services and supplies industrial as well as marine drive systems. It was named the second-largest heavy-duty truck manufacturer in 2016.

Volvo Cars, the automobile manufacturer, was also an arm of AB Volvo before 1999. It was sold to Ford Motor Company the same year. It has its headquarters in Gothenburg as well. As of 2010, the automaker has been under the leadership of the Chinese multinational automotive manufacturing company known as Geely Holding Group. Both Volvo Cars and AB Volvo use the Volvo logo and work hand-in-hand to run the Sweden-based Volvo Museum. The company was listed on the NASDAQ indices in 1985 up to 2007. Prior to that, it had been on the Stockholm Stock Exchange since 1935.

The very first Volvo company was launched in 1915 as a branch of the ball bearing manufacturer SKF. The first car series was the Volvo OV 4 which was released by Volvo Cars and Volvo Group in April 1927.
