The Chevy Silverado 1500, a highly popular full-size pickup truck, requires specific headlight bulb sizes to ensure proper fitment and optimal performance. The headlight bulb size for the Chevy Silverado 1500 can vary depending on the year and model of the truck. Typically, these trucks use different bulbs for high beam and low beam functions.
For many of the recent Silverado 1500 models, the low beam usually requires an H11 bulb, while the high beam often uses a 9005 bulb. These sizes can differ in earlier models or special editions, so it’s important to verify the specific requirements of your particular vehicle. Additionally, some Silverado models might be equipped with HID or LED bulbs, which have different sizing and installation processes compared to standard halogen bulbs.

Bulb Replacement
Chevy Silverado 1500 Headlight Bulb Replacement Low Beam 1999-2015
The low beam headlight bulbs in your 1999-2015 GM Silverado 1500 can go out at any time, and replacing them is a fairly simple process. Listed below are the tools required for this replacement as well as some helpful tips to ensure an easy process with no surprises.
Parts/Tools Required: New 921 or H6054 Replacement Bulb Phillips Screwdriver Flat Head Screwdriver Gloves Latex or similar gloves are highly recommended for this job to protect your hands from getting cut on broken glass if the old bulb shatters during removal.
If possible it’s always best to replace both headlights at the same time, but you only have to do one side at a time so there’s no need to return the car to the road if you do happen to get a bulb out of one side and forget about the other.
Bulb Replacement Procedure: Disconnect your battery by removing the negative (-) cable from the battery terminal then moving it away from on top of or near the battery itself. With your gloves on, turn your steering wheel all the way to either side so that you can safely peer into both headlights from behind for easy access. Using a flat-head screwdriver or a small pry tool, remove each of the plastic covers over the low beam headlight bulbs by gently wedging between them and lifting up.
Be careful not to break these covers as they are rather flimsy and even when broken will still cover most of the bulb once rein. ( NOTE : the low beams on the 2015 model are covered by a larger piece of plastic which must be removed using your Phillips screwdriver) Once you’ve removed both covers, grasp the top edge of the headlight lens and carefully pull it outwards away from the front end of your Silverado (NOTE: Be very careful not to let this lens come into contact with anything if at all possible. If it does, there’s a good chance it will crack).
With the headlight lens pulled back, remove both of your old 921 or H6054 low beam bulbs by wiggling them back and forth until they reach their “unlock” position then gently pulling them straight out. Once you’ve removed both old bulbs install new replacement bulbs by inserting them into the slots and gently pushing until they click into place.
To reinstall your headlight lens, begin by aligning each of the clips on the back of it with their corresponding holes on the front end of your Silverado then carefully push it all the way in until you can reinsert both retaining screws through the front.
Place both of your plastic cover pieces back over the top edges of each headlight then turn your steering wheel back to its normal position before reconnecting your battery by first hooking up the positive (+) cable then replacing the negative (-) cable.
Turn signals are another item which might require replacement at some point, however this process is likely much simpler than changing out a dead low beam or high beam lamp. The process of removing and replacing the turn signal bulbs in your 1999-2015 Silverado 1500 is listed below, along with some helpful tips to aid you.
Parts/Tools Required: New Amber 1156 Replacement Bulb Flat Head Screwdriver
Replacing Turn Signal Bulbs Procedure: Locate both of your turn signal lights on your front bumper which are located inside small circular lenses. Using a flat head screwdriver remove the small screws around this lens and place them aside someplace safe where they won’t get lost ( NOTE : some vehicles may require more than one screw to be removed while others will not). Once all screws have been removed you can pull back on the outside edge of that lens and it will pop off revealing the turn signal bulb underneath
